Raimundo Gaby is a Brazilian photographer residing in the United States for over 20 years. He has been photographing for the past 10 years. Gaby is also an associate professor in the Business Management Department at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY. A 1997 graduate of the CIA’s Bachelor of Professional Studies program, Gaby returned to his alma mater after gaining professional experience as sommelier and dining room manager at Lutèce, manager and captain at Oceana, and assistant beverage manager at the Waldorf Astoria, all in New York City. He also served as kitchen manager for Restaurant Associates at Goldman Sachs in New York, and also gained kitchen experience at restaurants on Nantucket Island, MA.
Gaby spent a decade studying wines and spirits. He studied at the International Wine Center, in Manhattan, and holds an Advance Diploma from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, in London. In 2011 Gaby graduated with a Masters Degree in Adult Learning and Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, NY. He is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Education also at Teachers College, Columbia University.
Gaby speaks Portuguese, Spanish, English, and some French. He is truly interested in other cultures. He loves music. He plays guitar and sings. He also loves movies, theater, food and wine. Most of all, he loves spending time with his daughter, family, partner, and friends.
Photography has become an essential component of Gaby’s life. To him, photography is not only a therapeutic experience, or a way to regain energy, or an opportunity to tell a story that needs to be told. Above all, it is his way of showing his deepest appreciation and gratitude for the creator and the creation—for being alive.
